Specs
Pie safes, also known as pie safe cupboards, pie cabinets and pie chests, date back to the early 1700s. Before refrigeration, these cupboards were used to store not only pies but also other perishables. Storing these items in the pie chest kept food safe from pests but also from hungry family members!
The Amish Arts and Crafts pie safe from AmishOutletStore.com is a unique conversation piece in a world where these pie cabinets are no longer used. At the same time, it offers a practical storage solution for the kitchen or any room of the house.
Characteristics of the Amish Arts and Crafts Pie Safe
Pie cabinets were brought to the United States through German and other European immigrants. They are traditionally ventilated through slats or some other means and are about the size of a small hutch. The Amish Arts and Crafts pie safe from AmishOutletStore.com has perforated copper wheat panels which offer some ventilation and visual interest.
This pie safe cupboard is based on the Arts and Crafts style which was popular in the early 1900s. A reaction to the very ornate Victorian furniture and décor, Arts and Crafts focused on streamlined and simple yet attractive pieces.
